Is talking about mental health becoming a source of entertainment?

Mental health is a topic that we cannot ignore. What people believed to be weird diseases or spiritual possessions back in the day has a scientific term now. Most of them are related to our mental health like depression, anxiety, OCD, and so many more.

In this age of social media, people are coming forth with their voices, sharing their traumas with the world, we are getting to know some of the rarest forms of illnesses and syndromes. Everyone has a platform to share their voice and let the world know how serious mental health issues are.

No matter small or big, everyone goes through something, and by sharing their experiences they are letting the world know that mental health matters. But while sharing their vulnerabilities, and their traumas, they are putting themselves in a dangerous place where people can take advantage of their situation because let’s face it, this world is becoming a devil’s den day by day.

The mockery of mental health issues

Be it on YouTube or other social media platforms, I have come across so many people who fake their illnesses, for what? Likes and shares? Because they love attention?

Mental health is not for people’s entertainment. It can take someone’s life. It has taken so many lives.

Even though there are so many people who actually put forward their opinions and voices, who share what going through certain traumas, and situations feel like, with so many people mocking a serious disease, it’s hard to understand if that person is being genuine and thus, their voice gets unheard.

Wanting to be the center of attention isn’t as bad, but pretending to have a serious illness from which many people had even died is utterly disrespectful, but these people just do not understand that. Mocking a disease is the worst thing someone can come up with and with the population of the world, it only seems to grow.

The Solution?

Awareness.

As cliché as it sounds, being aware, not only of mental health and its impact on people, but about the people who find fun in disrespecting others can help get the right message to the people.

Yes, talking about mental health becoming a source of entertainment, for thousands of people, but by being aware and spreading the right information, we can try our best to support the right people who deserve to live and have a happy life.

Those people aren’t disgusting or abnormal, they are made to be seen like that because of this unjust society and world. There are still people left in this world who believe in spreading positivity, so let’s not find entertainment in someone’s mental health issues and support them with our love and positivity.
